We couldn’t visit Sam Roi Yot national park without a boat trip. The river runs among mangrove forest between picturesque mountain picks and finally enters the sea.

This time we were more interested in dragons (water monitors, lat. Varanus salvator). They can reach a maximum size of 3 m!
National park Sam Roi Yot has several interesting caves. Last year we didn’t had a chance to explore them. This time we visited one cave (not the most famous one with the temple). Though this cave has all the attributes – stalagmites, stalactite and even bats sleeping on the ceiling.
This festival is organized every year not far from Hua Hin. It’s funny, spectacular and definitely is worth visiting.
On our way to Pranburi traffic police office we found this nice Chinese temple.
Khao Sam Roi Yot is a marine national park covering 98.08 km², of which 20.88 km² are marine areas. The park was established in 1966, and was the first coastal national park of Thailand.
The name Khao Sam Roi Yot means Mountains with 300 peaks, which describes the landscape of the park quite well. Between the hills are freshwater marshes. However several of these marshes were converted into shrimp farms.
Khao Sam Roi Yot has a variety of ecology system, composing of sea, beaches, mangrove forests, freshwater, marsh land, and limestone mountain, which make the areas are appropriated to be living place of any kind of animals, particularly birds.
Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha graciously presided over the ‘Asian Beach Polo Championship B.Grimm-InterContinental’, the first and only one beach polo tournament in Asia at Hua Hin at the beachfront of InterContinental Hua Hin Resort.
The wining team was Thai Polo Club Team with the highest lead of 16 scores and won the Princess PA’s Cup. Proceeds of 4 million Baht from the event will be given to the ‘Kamlangjai Project’ or Inspire by Princess PA, initiated by HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha to provide support to women in incarceration including pregnant inmates and their babies.
Highlight of the event also included beach-themed fashion show on horseback by Burberry and La Perla presented by professional and honorable models.
A place to visit in Hua Hin is Wat Khao Takiab which means temple on a mountain (hill) Takiab. By the way Takiab in Thai language is “chopstick”. We have no idea why they called a mountain that way but this gave a name to the whole part of the Hua Hin town.
Everybody knows that Takiab is far from the center, but has very nice beaches on both sides of Takiab mountain.
Don’t take a tour to Wat Khao Takiab – it’s not that far away. Better to go there by rented motorbike to be able to stop anywhere you want and look around. People in good fit can take song-toew and walk up.
The way passes through fishermen village. Starting from there you’ll understand why Takiab also is called monkey mountain. There are a lot of monkeys everywhere, especially in the temple. Monks feed them, which tourists are not recommended to do. Sometimes monkeys are quite aggressive.
Peaceful evening on Takiab beach – our favourit beach in town. We like better only Soi Noi on Khao Tao, but it’s a bit far away.
Sunset photos. Hua Hin is on the west shore of Siam gulf, so the Sun is setting down to the hills. And we were taking pictures of that sunset staying in the sea.
Our first month in Hua Hin we lived in Takiab area.
